A broken soldier looking for a second chance
Reeling from his best friend’s suicide, former Army Ranger Sterling Walker comes home to Prairie to be foreman at the brand new Resolution Ranch. His focus should be on putting his life back together—not on the high school frenemy he used to love to hate. But the gorgeous and glaring Emma Sinclaire is just as sassy and smart as he remembers—and Sterling can’t resist a challenge.
An old flame with a chip on her shoulder
Sterling is the last person Emma wants to see when she returns to Prairie. Once upon a time, she might have crushed on the town golden boy, but she can’t forget the night her nemesis took things too far. And while Sterling is as handsome and cocky as ever, she’s not falling for his charms a second time.
Their old rivalry rears its ugly head when Emma & Sterling are forced to team up on a fundraiser for the ranch. Only this time, hot kisses and even hotter nights make things much, much more complicated. Can Emma let go of the past to see Sterling as something other than the shallow teen who left Prairie years ago? And can the broken veteran move beyond the loss of his comrade to embrace a second chance at love?

A Hero's Heart: Resolution Ranch (Flint Hills Military Heroes Book 2) by Tessa Layne
This is Sterling Walker and Emma Sinclaire’s story.
This is a great and beautifully written story. Sterling has issues that he hasn’t dealt with and promises to never marry after losing a good friend. He doesn’t want to put a woman through what his good friend’s wife and child is having to endure. Sterling returns home to Resolution Ranch and ends up working with Emma. Emma and Sterling go way back and he used to love teasing and aggravating her. He worries that he went too far and wants Emma to know that he has changed. Sterling’s friends used to tease him that Emma was the one that got away. Will Sterling stick to his vow to never marry or will he take a chance on finding true love?
I loved Sterling and Emma’s story. Their journey wasn’t an easy one but was an amazing ride. I enjoyed the supporting characters and their story too. The author did a wonderful job of incorporating awareness of grief after losing someone important and the issues that military personnel and their families deal with when getting back to life outside of the service.

An Absolute Must Read!
This is an amazing story of love, loss and living your best life possible told through characters that pull on your heartstrings. This second book in the series continues to unfold the tales of Prairie's finest and resilient residents, military heroes and friends. The construction and establishment of Resolution Ranch, an establishment designed to give back to our brave men and women who have served our country through ranching, is the backdrop for Sterling and Emma's sizzling chemistry. What's not to love about two high school nemeses starting over as friends...with benefits?
Just like Tessa Layne's other books, this story is emotional and provocative and so well done that I am in awe. This is an important subject matter that is brought to the forefront in a beautiful romance. I recommend this book as a must read especially, if you are connected with anyone serving in the military. Oh, and have your box of tissues at the ready!
