LOVE IS THE GREATEST RISK OF ALL
After multiple tours of duty, Brandon Forte returns to his hometown on a personal mission: to open a facility for military service dogs like Haydn, a German shepherd who's seen his share of combat and loss. It also brings him back to Sophie Kim, a beacon of light in his life . . . and the one woman he can't have. But Forte's success means he's made enemies in high places. Enemies who are now after Sophie . . .
When Forte enlisted and left without saying goodbye, Sophie did her best to move on. But with her first love back in town, looking sexier than ever, she's constantly reminded of what they could have had. Then after he risks himself for her, Sophie realizes she'll have to put her life in the hands of the man who broke her heart, knowing the danger -and the sparks between them- could consume them both.

Strong Plot, Cast. Predictable. Lacked Chemistry.

Black shepherd and his partner, ready for action. Strong, bold. Did not read synopsis, this series is an auto-buy for me.

Third-person POV.
Piper J Drake's explosive start to her third installment of the True Heroes series sets the pace for ABSOLUTE TRUST and does not disappoint!
Brandon Forte is the owner and founder of the kennels that he, Cruz, and Rojas work at. Retired military. Sophie is an accountant & long-time friend of Forte's. An eye for detail makes Sophie a target with deadly intent. Haydn's a disabled combat K9 staying at the kennels for retraining and rehab / therapy while the military checks with the handler's family about potential adoption.
The trio made a solid team with believable chemistry and natural interactions. They were joined by previous couples as well as new faces that could potentially expand the series or allow for a related spin-off. "The feline finger", such an apt description that made me laugh and smile in recognition and understanding as I am saluted in much the same manner daily by my trio. The plot was dynamic and exciting. The writing style flowed smoothly and was a pleasure to read. There were several points of conflict throughout the story and each was handled in timely and most-often mature manners. There were several elements of predictability, but not so overwhelming or glaringly obvious that it took the joy out of the reading experience.
I was quite disappointed in the ending and lack of any form of a conclusion. Both characters expressed ideas of what they'd like to maybe see happen in the future, but there was little to no motion towards it from either of them. There was no defined nor implied HEA for the lead couple either. I'd like to think that their story will continue in the background to the next book in the series, but there was no mention of a next book being in the works.
Overall, the story was both well-written and well-told. The characters were strong enough, but the romantic element seemed to be lacking in comparison to the previous couples.
