Publisher Description
With her sassy humor and sexy cowboys, USA Today bestseller Carolyn Brown launches her new Longhorn Canyon series.
One city girl, one die-hard rancher, and eight mischievous kids.
What could go wrong?
Every summer Cade Maguire looks forward to opening his Longhorn Canyon Ranch to underprivileged city kids. But this year, he's having no luck finding a counselor for the children -- until Retta Palmer walks through his door.
Flat broke after selling everything she owns to pay her father's medical bills, Retta is thrilled to hear of an opening for a counselor position. She's not as thrilled about the ranching part, or the sexy cowboy with beautiful blue eyes who's her new boss.
After being left at the altar two years before by his fiance, Cade isn't sure he can take another heartbreak. And Retta isn't even sure she wants to stay. But the sparks between them are absolutely undeniable. And with a couple of lovable kids and two elderly folks playing matchmaker, Cade and Retta may find that the best way to heal is with each other.
"Cowboy Bold is the start of an amazing new series by an author who really knows how to hook her readers with sexy cowboys, strong women, a bunch of humor, and a stellar story. ...Everything about this book is a roaring good time."-Harlequin Junkie, Top Pick
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
There’s nothing like a sweet-hot summer romance. Rancher Cade Maguire isn’t looking for love, but when the whip-smart and gorgeous Retta Palmer walks onto his Texas ranch looking for a job, he’s bowled over by the sparkling chemistry he has with her. So were we. Retta is just as caught off guard by her new boss—a handsome cowboy with a heart of gold—but her life is in shambles, making a new romance seem too complicated. Cowboy Bold plays out like a catchy country love song. Throughout it all, we hoped Cade and Retta’s will-they-or-won’t-they love story would keep going forever. Luckily for us, this is the first book in Carolyn Brown’s dreamy, steamy Longhorn Canyon series.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Brown's wispy series launch unites a Dallas banker and a cowboy through shared work on a Texas ranch. Former Dallas businesswoman Retta Palmer takes a summer job as a camp counselor at Longhorn Canyon Ranch, which is run by sexy Cade Maguire. Every summer, the Longhorn hosts eight disadvantaged children from the city to introduce them to life on a working ranch. Though sparks fly between Cade and Retta from their first meeting, he is still reeling from his former fianc 's abandonment of him, and Retta is determined to move back to Dallas after the summer ends. Despite their attempts to ignore their mutual attraction, their relationship builds with stolen kisses amid the chaos of mentoring eight preteens. The beauty and simplicity of ranch life echo throughout the novel. The children are charming and likable, but the protagonists are not fully developed, and their relationship lacks the depth necessary to be both believable and lasting. Even Brown's many fans will find few reasons to continue with this series.
Customer Reviews
An engaging tale about relationships, healing and choices
Cowboy Bold is an engaging tale of city kids at summer camp on a farm and the country folks who take care of them for over a month.
Retta is a fun, plain spoken woman with spunk and lots of ranching skills. Cade's the hot cowboy who owns the ranch with his brother. They spark off each other like metal on metal.
In the end this one is all about relationships, healing and choices. The kids learn life that's not quite so hard or rough. Grief is dealt with in this as are lost love, communication, family and priorities.
Love the ranch concept and appreciate the way disability and injury were handled. The supporting characters in this love story are believable, sometimes obnoxious, likable and very human.
