SPOILERS ! (Kind of)
Wow. I was conflicted throughout the entire book. I rooted for Rafe, Kaden and even the Komizar at times. The Komizar’s cracks shown, his tenderness buried deep beneath the surface. But I guess a position like that will corrupt even the strongest shreds of integrity. LOVE Calentha and who she developed into. I’m glad she was also able to help Lia.
RIP Aster. She didn’t deserve to be a casualty of war. I know “Venda doesn’t have any children” but she deserved the world and so much more. I’m glad her efforts to help Lia weren’t in vain.
Lia is such a strong character. Strong to a fault. She lead Kaden on well, even the Komizar, but her affections for Rafe were stronger than any Lie she could spin. She slain the dragon and that makes me wonder for the future of Venda, especially without a leader. Who will call the shots for the army of 100k+ ?
If she makes it back to Morrigan, I hope she’s given a chance to explain. It would be a miracle for her to even make it to Dalbrek. We shall see.
Very excited for the next book. I feel like this series will be one I return to, to gain an even deeper understanding of the world and its inhabitants.

Omg this book was soooo much better than the first it follows right where it left off from and i literally could not stop reading it. Not for a second was a bored through the book but it did kind of give me vow of thieves vibe between the relationship of the Komizar and lia. I still dunno if i like Rafe but i see a lot of character development for Lia, she’s so much stronger now. Also the writing is beautiful i love mary e pearson sm. Immediate 5 stars.
Still team Kaden
I understand that Lia's heart will always lie with Rafe, however I feel like the relationship between her and Kaden makes more sense. Lia and Rafe only briefly became more than friends before she was taken away. On that long journey, Kaden got to know Lia more and probably better than Rafe ever had. He knew her and she knew him. Rafe loved her, yes, but what did he love about her? This is just my opinion, the book is written fantastically and beautifully as always, and I will appreciate whatever turn the book takes, even if I still think Kaden is Lia's soulmate but anywho. Amazing book!
P.S I haven't read the last book yet but if anything besides happiness and a good ending comes anywhere near Kaden I'm going to scream. He is my favorite character.
