Publisher Description

In her Avon debut, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jill Shalvis launches a fun, sexy new contemporary romance series featuring a boy, a girl, and one wily wishing well. Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him—hard . . .

Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

Too sweet

Pru wants to meet Finn. She wants to talk to him, touch him and more. He just has no clue she's alive. Or does he?

Finn looks at her when she is all wet. Looking like a drowned rat. Suddenly the chance of a lifetime opens up. Pru has only to reveal the secret...

Such a sexy and fun story. I was blown away by the feels I got reading this book. I felt it all. Really great start to the Heartbreaker Bay series. I cannot wait for the next book!

One of those stories that just gets better

Pru is a charter boat captain with a mission. Since her parents’ death she has attempted to assuage her guilt and remorse by covertly and overtly helping the families that were impacted by her parents’ choices that night. Not only did Pru lose her parents that night, but her father was driving drunk, and the accident killed or impacted others. She’s stepped in to use all of her resources to help these families and ease their path in life. But, the last family she’s helped still need her.

Finn was 21 when his father was killed by a drunk driver. He left school and a promising baseball career to step up and manage his younger brother Sean, building a life for them. Owning a bar wasn’t on his short-list, but he’s done everything, and works endlessly to make a go of things. Unfortunately, he never really sees that Sean appreciates or understands the necessity of work, dedication and commitment. He’s desperately in need of some relaxation and fun in his life, it just won’t be a woman. Or perhaps, the water-logged blonde with legs for days and a nearsighted mini-mutt with mega attitude may be the cure.

I loved these two – both are stuck in their own little boxes. Pru spends so much time trying to do for others to make up for something that was never her responsibility that she’s never really moved forward from the night of her parents’ death. Her only living relative is her paternal grandfather: an elderly, infirm man struggling with dementia and anger. She nearly bankrupted herself to help everyone impacted by the accident, and still her own happiness eludes her as she doesn’t think she deserves it. Finn’s journey is a bit different – a deceitful girlfriend just added to his issues: determined to make good and overcome his father’s expectations for both he and Sean, he’s guarded and focused – on work.

One of those stories that just gets better as it proceeds – with secondary characters that are as important to the relationship between Finn and Pru, the wishing well at the center of the story, and Pru’s nearsighted and obstreperous little dog Thor. Each of the secondary characters brings that sense of ‘family you make’ to the story, supportive and protective, these are the friends everyone wants in their corner. A wonderful start to a new series – go grab this now for plenty of smiles with a few tears, sure to leave you smiling.

I received a paperback copy of the title from Avon Addicts for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
