INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
From the co-host of chart-topping true crime podcast Morbid, a thrilling debut novel told from the dueling perspectives of a notorious serial killer and the medical examiner following where his trail of victims leads
Something dark is lurking in the Louisiana bayou: a methodical killer with a penchant for medical experimentation is hard at work completing his most harrowing crime yet, taunting the authorities who desperately try to catch up.
But forensic pathologist Dr. Wren Muller is the best there is. Armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of historical crimes, and years of experience working in the Medical Examiner's office, she's never encountered a case she couldn't solve. Until now. Case after case is piling up on Wren's examination table, and soon she is sucked into an all-consuming cat-and-mouse chase with a brutal murderer getting more brazen by the day.
An addictive read with straight-from-the-morgue details only an autopsy technician could provide, The Butcher and the Wren promises to ensnare all who enter.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The author of this pulse-pounding thriller about a dedicated medical examiner and a vicious killer isn’t afraid to let things get a little grisly. A serial killer dubbed the Bayou Butcher has been plucking strangers from the streets of New Orleans and using a chilling level of medical know-how to torture and kill them. Now forensic pathologist Wren is struggling to solve the mystery before he strikes again. Author Alaina Urquhart draws on her own real-life work as an autopsy technician (not to mention as co-host of the true-crime podcast Morbid) for this gripping tale, with a fast-paced plot we could have listened to in one sitting. We loved the way the story is told from the POVs of both Wren and the Butcher. If you think you’re ready to enter the mind of a killer, The Butcher and the Wren is a true must-read.

One gripe
Lumber region of the back is not C6. C6 is cervical. She made that error a few times in the book. Why not do some research that would only take five minutes, and use the correct anatomical terminology?
Other than that, a really good book. I am looking forward to #2.
Easy to Read, hard to put down
I was on the edge of my seat time after time. I can’t wait to read the next one!
