While Mr. Williams’ fervent loquaciousness is at times meandering, one cannot help but fall in love with his beautifully written characters.
Admittedly, the first third of the book progresses quite slowly; however, it serves as a masterful set up of the world Mr. Williams has imagined and put to paper. The scale of the kingdom, the many different players in court, it truly allows you to sense characters allegiances and understand their reasoning for them.
The final third of the book is action-packed, full of surprises, and sets up the rest of the series well.
I am happy I found this series and can understand why it has inspired so many authors to create their own beautiful stories. Beautiful job, Mr. Williams. Onto the next of the series.
