PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Newly abridged by Timothy Meis, James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans comes to life under the paintbrush of N.C. Wyeth, with illustrations originally published in 1919. The artist offers readers a close-up view of the French and Indian War, in paintings such as British colonel Duncan's struggle against a Huron warrior or the Mohican Chingachgook similarly fighting off another Huron warrior in the clearing of a wood. Wyeth's paintings also accompany Meis's adaptation of Daniel DeFoe's Robinson Crusoe, due out in February.

The Last of the Mohigans
Found the read quite challenging. It took me quite some time to read it, but I’m glad I did.
Nothing like the movie
If you think this is the worst book ever written, perhaps you shouldn't have dared to stray so far from your Tom Clancy/Danielle Steele little world into the land of early American literature. Though the writing here is extremely flowery even for its time period, the story itself is quite exciting. For those who liked the movie, this has almost nothing in common with it. There's little romance and lots of action.
Excellent read!
As one who grew up in this area of Glens Falls (note the spelling), Fort Edward, Fort William Henry and Lake George, it brought many images clear to my mind. I had always wanted to read this book, and this e-book gave me the easiest opportunity to do so!
BTW: The cave mentioned at Glens Falls is now called "Cooper's Cave" - in honor of the author!
