Love and loyalty clash in an appealing rom-com from Abby Jimenez. In The Night We Met (set in the same universe as Say You’ll Remember Me), waitress and side-hustle queen Larissa makes a split-second decision that has long-lasting repercussions when she takes a ride home after a concert with boisterous personal trainer Mike instead of his quiet pharmacist friend, Chris. But then Chris ends up picking up boyfriend-duty slack for the oft-drunk Mike: taking Larissa and her mom to the hospital, digging out her car after a snowstorm, remembering her nut allergy. As she and Chris share an easy and affectionate connection through books, food, and the adoption of a near-feral Yorkie, Larissa finds herself questioning her impulsive choice. Jimenez has an effortless knack for building three-dimensional characters. We eagerly switch between Larissa’s and Chris’ points of view as they wrestle with the consequence of their growing attraction as well as their concern for Mike. Sweetly charming and emotionally complex, this is Abby Jimenez at her prime.

Her best book
I honestly think this is the best book she has ever written. The way the characters are written, imperfect but coping in the best ways they know, made the story feel very realistic. I liked that this romance was centered on real life hardship, how a lot of times, true love is not about grand gestures or performance, but about having someone who makes your life easier. I really liked the message Jimenez leaves in all her books, but I especially liked it in this one. She advocates for us romance girlies to find someone who will make our lives easier for us. And I think that is the whole entire point of true love.
Very good
I really enjoyed this book. It was emotional and sweet. I liked that they experienced real life trauma and didn’t know how to deal with it because everyone experiences trauma at some point. It felt real. The writing was good, so much so that I cried for these characters.
Lacked plot and character
This was not like the usual Abby Jimenez book… I finished it because I bought it but it was kinda… boring? Slow? Pointless? Lots of dialogue and very little plot. If I had the chance to read it again, it wouldn’t.
