Publisher Description
The New York Times bestselling author’s “trademark blend of action, earthy humor, magic, and romance is on full display” in her Call of Crows series debut (Publishers Weekly).
Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.
In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.
But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty . . . and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Laurenston (Bite Me) launches a series in an alternate contemporary setting populated by the Norse gods (with which she takes some liberties) and their mortal agents. Former Marine Kera Watson is stabbed in an alley and left for dead. To her shock, the Norse deity Skuld revives her and transforms her into one of the Crows, empowered to fight and kill as needed for her new mistress. As the disciplined, orderly Kera acclimates to her new role, she clashes with the laid-back, chaotic nature of her fellow Crows. She also falls for Ludvig "Vig" Rundstom, a warrior of the rival Ravens. Their cross-clan romance surprises and amuses everyone, especially those familiar with Vig's stoic nature. But soon they all have something more to worry about: cultists are using blood magic and stolen treasures to try to bring a long-forgotten goddess to the mortal plane. If they succeed, it could rekindle an ancient war. Laurenston's trademark blend of action, earthy humor, magic, and romance is on full display. Her characters enjoy profane language, screwball comedy, and lusty bedroom antics at every opportunity, while advancing a fast-paced, satisfying, and often deadly serious story.

Funny
Touch and go for a while. I wasn’t sure I was going to like the book. Surprisingly, it was funny. Kera’s journey was boring at times. I loved the other Crows and Vig and the other Ravens. Even Brodie Hawaii. Kera and was hard to swallow. I’m in good company because she drove her sister Crows nuts too. Turned out to be a fun read. Great battles too.
Ok
There is a lot of world building that I found very confusing and a bit boring.
The characters are fun, quirky and somewhat scary to say the least. Kera and Vig are a good romance couple and totally made for each other. There are several strong secondary characters that added a lot to this book. As in all of the other Shelly Laurenston books I’ve read there are some good laughable moments but there is a lot more suspenseful moments then in her other books.
I will probably read the other books to see how this series plays out.
