Publisher Description

The visionary novel about the dramatic effects of a CORONA pandemic. This great adventure epic, first published in 2010, focuses on a single survivor, Alan, who must battle the aftershocks of a deadly viral epidemic. Stuck in Japan, Alan must decide to wait for rescuers that may never arrive, or to fight his way home through an empty world. A highly-rated story of hope, perseverance and love - dealing with themes fully applicable to the 2020 outbreak.
Plot: as Alan arrives in Tokyo on a business trip, he doesn’t suspect yet that a disaster is about to happen. Booking into his hotel, he feels a flue coming up, and as he awakes from his fever a few days later, he discovers that a pandemic has struck down humanity. Two Journeys takes the reader to a post-apocalyptic world, mankind obliterated… and apparently only one lonely single survivor. Alan sets out on a seemingly impossible 10,000-mile journey from Tokyo to Berlin, to learn whether his wife and two young sons have survived the catastrophe. He has to rely on his own wits to survive in a world that knows no mercy; inexperienced in survival tactics he must fight natural enemies, disease, hunger and his weaker self. The landscapes of Asia, Siberia and Europe are described in all ferocity. The story grips the reader in the first couple of pages and never lets go, all the way to the shocking climax. This is an extremely engaging, intelligent and very entertaining adventure story for all ages.
Clemens P. Suter has a PhD in biology and has extensive experience in virology, obtained e.g. during the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s. His scientific know-how is omnipresent in this original work, and holds true today.
“Move over, Cormac McCarthy, another survivor is traveling the Armageddon road. Clemens P. Suter's apocalyptic thriller grabs you in the first couple of pages and never lets go. The reader feels real empathy for the main character's plight as he begins a seemingly impossible 9,000-mile trip to learn his family's fate. The cause of the calamity is mysterious but clues are uncovered along the way causing tension to build until we reach the shattering climax. Two Journeys is not to be missed.” -- G. Dedrick Robinson, author of Blood Scourge.

Two Journeys

It's a pleasure to read a book that isn't saturated with privilege and that unbearably arrogant complacency and sense of entitlement that poisons many American books. I love the depth of the main character. I love that he is not a special forces green beret rough hewn survivalist sniper with limitless ammunition who's invisible skydaddy sitting on a golden throne somewhere in the clouds, who teaches eternal and endless love, guides the survivalist's bullets and enables him to make a footstool of the skulls of his enemies. Thank you for not going there.

Good story. Not as lonely and devastating as "The Road", but very good nevertheless.
