Things were going fine until Blake "the Flake" Moffitt decided to show his much-too-handsome face again in Hallmark Beach.
I may have been in love with my best friend's brother once upon a time, but that fairytale is long over. Now, he's just another person who's left and disappointed me. Who's hurt my best friend, Marilee.
This time, I'm determined to protect both of us from expecting too much.
Thankfully, he's only here for the summer.
So even though he's our temporary housemate—did I forget to mention that?—maybe I could tolerate his presence in town. Except for one little thing…
He's parked his food truck right next to the only full-service restaurant in town…
…and it's the one I'm currently managing. The one that was already struggling on my watch, and now is plunging into the red.
Guess what, buddy? This means war.
Blake must be stopped, but he thwarts me at every turn. It's bad enough we have to work together on the town's Fourth of July festival planning committee, but then he has to go and be sweet when I least expect it—more like the guy I used to know.
So is he my enemy…or the love of my life?
Only time will tell. But time has a funny way of ticking away. And with a restaurant opening calling him back to the big city at the end of the summer, time is the one thing we don't have on our side.

“Sweet macaroni!” You’ll love this book!
“Sweet macaroni”, this was a great book! It was so fun to visit Hallmark Beach again. A perfect cute and quirky small community at the beach, where wonderful characters find love when they least expect it. Blake had left Hallmark Beach many years before to chase the success his father wanted for him. Lucy, his sister’s best friend, was hurt by his departure, and then angered by his absence while his sister grieved the loss of their parents. When Blake returned for a few months to perfect recipes for a planned restaurant, Lucy was horrified to have to live with him as a roommate, and livid when he operated his food truck right next to the restaurant she worked at. Both Lucy and Blake were forced to confront unresolved feelings, resentments, and attraction. And to reevaluate their goals and life plans. “‘But I guess you just have to ask yourself what success means to you. Not your dad. You.’”
There was good tension and romantic intensity between the main characters. Their chemistry was apparent in their banter and the swoony moments too. The characters were all wonderful and engaging. I love the fantastic friendships in this series. It was fun to get a taste of a male friend group taking shape, but even more special, was the group of female friends. “Maybe it’s not possible to ignore the pain, to just simply make lemonade like Mama said. But if there are lemons, I can trust that these girls will sit here and peel each one, biting into them and tasting their bitterness right along with me.” I can’t wait for all their stories. (I’m especially excited for Marilee’s, which was set-up very strongly in this book.) The town was a perfect setting, with some fun appearances from secondary characters in the town. Lucy’s Aunt and Uncle were particularly sweet. This story is the second in a series focused on a group of friends in their small town so there is carryover, but this book would still read well as a standalone. There are elements involved in this story that include death, grief, abandonment, and parental estrangement. This is a closed door romance with mild innuendo and no harsh language.
