Publisher Description
Discover the gloriously inventive and funny fantasy novel from bestselling author Terry Pratchett, the first book in the Death series, part of the Discworld novels.
'Incredibly funny, compulsively readable' The Times
‘A masterful blend of wit, satire, and philosophy’ 5-star reader reivew
'You cannot interfere with fate. Who are you to judge who should live and who should die?'
Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job.
Death is the Grim Reaper of the Discworld, a black-robed skeleton with a scythe who ushers souls into the next world. He is also fond of cats and endlessly baffled by humanity.
Soon Death is yearning to experience what humanity really has to offer, but to do that, he'll need to hire some help.
It's an offer Mort can't refuse. As Death's apprentice he'll have free board, use of the company horse - and being dead isn't compulsory.
It's a dream job - until Mort falls in love with Death's daughter, Ysabell, and discovers that your boss can be a killer on your love life . . .
Mort is the first book in the Death series, but you can read the Discworld novels in any order.

Exceptional
The anthropomorphic personification of death is my favourite character, dry sense of humour, loveable qualities and a kind heart. Another outstanding read by Terry Pratchett. Long live the disc world
His name is mort
Finally I got to read a Death story, as I kinda did a wibbly wobbley thing with the reading order when I was younger I’ve found reading this now has brought me greater understanding of the wonderful world that Sir Terry Pratchett created that I’ve also skipped ahead to read but now back tracking.
The only real issue with reading TDWS is that TP likes to have minor notes this isn’t where the physical books have them at the bottom of the page they are of course in a separate section of the ebook which means you have to jump to that section to read it then switch back ... although having your phone nearby can help solve this issue, just make sure it isn’t synced or you do end up getting a little lost ....
TP creates another selection of actors in his books with several guest stars appearances which is nice
Mort - the main star of the show sharing his major appearance with Death and I mean whom else would you want to share the leading role with, he is or will become one of the most loved characters in the books, and it wonderful to see the nervous limpy boy he is to become .... well that would be spoiling it wouldn’t it
Albert - I do just want to SHOUT ALBERT, but I’ve no idea why I’m sure it from some show, so we learn more about him in this book, which is quite a surprise, as I’ve no real book where he in that I have read, it becomes nice that ive learnt who he is already, I only am aware of this character in his minor appearances in the later series and mainly from the tv film HogFather.
Isabell - death daughter makes her grand appearance in this book again another character I’m only aware of from the tv film hogfather and I look forward to her growing into a guest character later in the series
Death - there is only one thing guaranteed in life and that is Death which thanks to TP becomes this hilarious character threaded throughout his books. Death takes well he kind of takes a vacation here, and chaos ensures on the disc after the boy .. I mean mort ... becomes his replacement.
