The Fever Ledger

The county survived hunger. Now survival itself is contagious.

Ten months after the world went dark, a child collapses at Stonegate's ration line. Similar cases appear across Woodford County, linked by flooded waste pits, contaminated water, crowded labor camps, and movement no one can fully trace. There are no working laboratories, too little medicine, and no safe way to separate one illness from another.

Daniel Mercer is handed a blank ledger and emergency authority over travel, water, work, and isolation. Every name he records may reveal the path of the outbreak. Every restriction may save lives. But closing the roads threatens the food supply, while exemptions for essential workers can carry death from farm to farm.

Miles Rourke wants armed cordons with no appeal. Carter Vale offers grain, transport, and isolation space in exchange for special treatment. Laura demands care based on need, while Emma discovers that connected households receive faster relief. Then a remote labor camp stops answering its radio, and the system Daniel built begins to look less like protection than evidence.

The Fever Ledger is Book Six of The Ash Commonwealth, a dark post-apocalyptic medical and political thriller about incomplete data, unequal rules, and the terrible arithmetic of deciding whose risk matters. Truth may still survive in the record, even when the people who made it do not.
