Publisher Description
Life's Too Short meets The Unhoneymooners in this sparkling, steamy, and swoon-worthy novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken, in which two sworn enemies must share house, home—and maybe their hearts—when they become co-parents after a sudden loss.
Colby's living her best life: as a popular food blogger, she gets to fulfill her dreams of exploring the globe. But her world comes crashing down when a tragic accident leaves her co-guardian of her best friend's two adorable children. Not only does she need to put down roots—fast—but she'll be sharing custody with the one man she can't stand sharing a continent with, let alone a house.
Accountant-extraordinaire Rip values rules and plans. But when he loses his sister and his best friend and becomes an insta-guardian all in one night, Rip sees his organized life imploding. What he really doesn't need is his sister's irresponsible, flighty—albeit kind and gorgeous—best friend making it worse.
Rip doesn't trust Colby to take their new responsibilities seriously, while Colby can't believe Rip thinks children will thrive under his rigid control. Yet soon Rip and Colby discover they need each other more than they hate each other. Could it be possible that following their hearts is just what their new little family needs?
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The only thing the main characters of Rachel Van Dyken’s wildly funny rom-com have in common is their love for Monica, who is Colby’s best friend and Rip’s sister. When tragedy strikes, this mismatched pair discovers they’ve been named co-guardians of Monica’s two small children. Now all they need to do is figure out how to parent without killing each other. Van Dyken isn’t afraid of tackling deeper emotions like grief and depression as the pair’s relationship grows into something deep, meaningful, and, yes, hot. Throw in a couple of adorable kids and The Godparent Trap will have you happily ensnared.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Van Dyken (the Bet series) tugs hard at the heartstrings with this complex, funny, and poignant romance about polar opposites who are forced to become co-parents. Free-spirited travel blogger Colby Summers and uptight accountant Rip Edison have always mixed like oil and water, but after Rip's sister and Colby's best friend, Monica, and her husband, Brooks, die in a car accident, Colby and Rip accept joint custody of the couple's children, Ben and Viera. Co-parenting two kids under the age of six is a culture shock that only escalates the sniping between the grieving Colby and Rip as they move into Monica and Brooks's old house and adjust to their new normal. But as they learn to work together to care for the sweet, traumatized children, tension turns to lust, then love, then planning for forever—until a shocking incident teaches both that tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Van Dyken creates an irresistible mix of laugh-out-loud and tear-jerking moments in an inspired plot that breathes new life into the unexpected child guardian trope. Stellar supporting characters—especially Rip's business partner, Banks, who collects indecent coffee mugs, and Colby's high school nemesis, Heather—add depth and levity to the story. This is Van Dyken's best yet.

Enemies to lovers
The Godparent Trap had me feeling all kinds of ways. Rip was an uptight, grumpy accountant that loved his niece and nephew tremendously. Colby is a very laid back food blogger who loves her best friends kids fiercely. Colby and Rip have known each other for years, but for some reason her personality drives him crazy. The two of them were always arguing until they had to team together to take care of their godchildren. I laughed often at them learning to take care of a household and two young kids. Neither one of them quite knew what to do. I also cried a little at the parts that all of them deal with the loss of their loved ones. I had I hard time buying into the romance part of the story. I think I needed more time of them being nice to each other or something. However, I did enjoy this story. It felt very realistic for the most part.
Awful
Two dimensional cloying characters. Wouldn’t finish if it was free. Hard to believe the cost for this.
Lovely
This was one of those books that surprised me. Thought it was going to be another rom com and it was refreshing. Loved Colby and Ripp, the journey thru what life threw at them. Viera, Ben and Stu. It made me cry and it made me laugh. Really good job.
