PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Grant (Dark Alpha's Demand) delivers an adrenaline-fueled combination of heat and heart in her stellar first Sons of Texas contemporary military romance. Orrin Loughman is kidnapped by the Russians after he steals a powerful biochemical weapon from them, and they don't care who they have to kill to get it back. Orrin's sons, who happen to be two Marines and a Navy SEAL, converge on their father's Texas ranch to strategize how to rescue him. Owen Loughman is shocked to find his first love, Natalie Dixon, standing ready to help. He'd said good-bye to Natalie 14 years earlier to keep her safe; after his mother was murdered by his father's political enemies, Owen swore he'd never put anyone he loved in harm's way again. Even as Owen dodges multiple murder attempts, he soon realizes he can't live without Natalie but can they stay alive long enough to enjoy their reunion? Grant grabs the reader by the throat early on with a plausible and suspenseful plot, characters readers will root for, and snappy prose, and she doesn't let up until the cliff-hanger ending. This first-class thrill ride will leave readers wanting more.

Very enjoyable
I really enjoyed this one. There is a ton of action and suspense that kept me flipping the pages. This is book 1 in the series and while you get a conclusion of sorts to Owen and Natalie's story, the overall story and the reason they were brought together continues in the next book.
Owen and his two brothers are summoned back to the family ranch. A place they all left and never planned to return. As a Navy SEAL Owen has seen a lot of action but never would he have guessed that he would be in the middle of an international incident right on the family ranch. And never would he imagine that Natalie, his teenage love be right there with him. As they deal with incredible danger including a bio-weapon, Russian hit men, and the disappearance of Owen's father, it becomes clear to both Owen and Natalie what is really important in life.
This is one I would definitely recommend.
The series get better
I read one of the last books in the series first, and it was so good, I decided to start at the beginning. I can tell you the writing definitely gets better if you keep reading.
I give this one a 3.5 for a few reasons. Firstly, the first sex scene flip flopped POVs so many times it was too distracting to enjoy. Additionally, there was no mention of birth control. Second, there was a whole lot of internal dialogue about the same subject over and over. And finally, the ending wasn’t particularly satisfying. Nothing was resolved, except a couple very rushed ‘I love yous.’ It’s supposed to be a cliffhanger, I suppose, but honestly, it just...ended.
The Hero
When you read books from Donna Grant you know you will get a good story. I love her Dragons and they will get to you. You know it is Fantasy. With this First Book, The Hero, you know she will put everything into it knowing this could be a real story. I like Military stories but some just get too Graphic. This is not your Momma's book. I understand this story but I won't be able to finish this series. Now, if you like the graphic type books then this could be your book. I will recommend this book for you then! I have volunteered to read and review this book.
