In 2008, Mark Howard, FACHE, was honored with the prestigious ACHE Gold Medal Award for his significant contributions to the healthcare field. Now retired from the industry, Mr. Howard was the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of MountainView Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Howard's healthcare management career began in 1969 in the U.S. Air Force, where he started out as a second lieutenant in the 75th TAC Hospital at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas. He was promoted to first lieutenant the next year, and in 1972 he rose to captain. Discharged from active duty in 1974, he resumed his military career in 1985 when he entered the Utah Air National Guard as a medical service officer. He retired fully from the Air Force in 2001, having reached the rank of colonel. From 1974 to 1989, Mr. Howard worked in various administrator positions at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and American Fork Hospital. In 1989, he was named CEO of Intermountain Healthcare Hospitals of Utah County, and two years later he was selected to be CEO of Intermountain Healthcare Hospitals of Central Utah.
