Chapter 6 of Ivywhisker’s Truth!

Hi! Can I have Toxic and Sea’s Treasure? Ty!!! :D
Ivywhisker groomed her five little kits. Dawnkit wriggled out from under her tongue and licked her own paws, quite funnily the wrong way. The fur on the she-kit’s black paws stuck straight up. Ivywhisker pulled her back and groomed them the right way for her, finishing the job off by smoothing down her crazily fluffy tail. It poofed right back out again, but at least it looked neater.
“Alright. You’re done. Come here, Smokekit!”
Smokekit swatted the tiny moss-ball one last time and bounded over. He sat calmly as she groomed his dark gray fur, the very image of his father. He had her green eyes, she observed. The little kits’ blue kit-eyes has begun to reveal their color, and funnily enough, exactly two of them had her green eyes, two had blue eyes, and the last one had blue and green eyes. Mooncloud stopped by to see the kits, but not often, lest it arouse suspicion.
“They’ll make fine little warriors,” she had mewed with some pride and some sadness in her voice. “Or leaders, or deputies. Or medicine cats!”
Alderkit swatted Dawnkit, nearly messing up her fur. Ivywhisker meowed, “don’t do that!” and waved Mossykit over. Smokekit trotted off, the pale gray patches shining on his smooth fur. The fluffy white she-kit sat, but jiggled up and down, the impatient one. Smokekit was the calm one, Dawnkit was the energetic one (which could also be thought of as impatient, but on the contrary, she was very patient if she wanted to be.) Mudkit was quiet and smart, and Alderkit was the funny one. Her kits were quickly developing strong, and very different, personalities. She hoped that Mossykit would learn patience during her apprenticeship.
For a moment she thought of the kits’ father, Smokefall, and how she would never see him again… until she went to StarClan to join him. Then she shook off the depressing thought. There was no time for sadness on her kits’ apprenticing day! Joy rushed through her, much like how Dawnkit rushed into Mudkit and bowled him over.
“Stop that!” She exclaimed. Mudkit grumpily trotted over and sat down. She gave him a few quick licks to clean off the dirt and moss bits, and then swept all her kits closer to her with her tail.
“Have fun as apprentices!” She meowed, remembering her own apprenticeship. “Don’t step on Jetblaze’s tail, don’t pick fights with the older apprentices, don’t complain about mouse bile, and work hard.”
Darlingkit and Nickelkit were three moons older than her kits, but had been held back from apprenticeship since there were not enough warriors. Many had died in the harsh leaf-bare, including Jaggedstar, and the new Clan leader had just decided to wait until her kits’ apprenticeships. She couldn’t say that it was the best decision, but it had worked out, since Darlingkit and Nickelkit had been small for their age from lack of food. Now they were big and strong enough to become apprentices along with her kits.
“All cats old enough to hunt gather at the Highrock!” Lightningstar’s voice rang out over the camp and Ivywhisker stood up.
“Where are you going, mama? We’re not old enough to hunt.” Mudkit asked.
“Well I am, and you will be soon!” she mewed, ushering her kits towards the outside. They trotted calmly towards Highrock- well, Smokekit trotted calmly, Mudkit walked, and Dawnkit, Mossykit, and Alderkit bounced along. Ah, well. Darlingkit and Nickelkit were already there, standing next to Needlepine and Blazegem. Needlepine’s newborn kits were still in the nursery with Leafstone and Cripplekit. He had a permanently twisted back paw and would be apprenticed to Mooncloud in two moons. His littermates, Tuckpaw and Finchpaw, hadn’t been held back but he had because of his paw.
“Ivywhisker, your kits are now six moons, and Blazegem, yours are now 9 moons.” Lightningstar winced a little as he said that last part. “It is time for them to be apprenticed. Alderkit, please step forward.” Her kit did so. Her former mentor smiled, and then looked surprised when Lightningstar called his name.
“Jetblaze, you have been a wise and loyal warrior, and I hope that you will pass on these skills to your apprentice in turn. Alderkit, come up here.” Alderkit padded forward and touched noses with Jetblaze, his legs slightly trembling.
“Mossykit, please come here.”
Mossykit trotted up and touched noses with Darklily, a dark tortoiseshell she-cat who Lightningstar proclaimed to be strong and smart. Next came Mudkit, who was apprenticed to Skymoon, a black-and-white she-cat, and Dawnkit, who became Fernfluff’s apprentice. Smokekit was apprenticed to Azurebreeze.
“Darlingkit and Nickelkit, please come forward.”
Nickelkit was apprenticed to Aspenclaw, a light brown tom who she didn’t know much about but whom Lightningstar proclaimed brave and thoughtful. She’d been an apprentice when he came from RiverClan, and had been rather shy then, not making a great first impression.
Then…
“Ivywhisker, you have been a strong and determined warrior, and I hope that Darlingkit will grow to become a warrior as loyal as you are.”
Ivywhisker silently snorted. She dreamed about Birch almost every night, and had even considered seeing him once or twice, but her kits had needed her. Now that they were apprentices… she shook off the thought and padded forward to touch noses with Darlingkit. She smiled down at the dark brown she-kit.
“I know it’s scary, but this is how I felt too,” she whispered. Darlingkit grinned.
“By the powers of StarClan, I name you Alderpaw, Smokepaw, Mossypaw, Dawnpaw, Mudpaw, Darlingpaw, and Nickelpaw!”
