Rocks & Gravel
After solving both her cousin and dean’s sisters murder all Peri Jean wants is to go back to her version of normal. No more ghost investigations. Just her working, taking care of mamaw and spending time helping Dean with his campaign. However fate doesn’t care what she wants. Hannah reaches out to Peri Jean begging for help. It seems that a ghost has stolen priceless books from the museums safe and Hannah needs to get them back. Peri Jean says she will help by asking around and digging in via the human world but refuses to speak with the ghosts. After looking into every possible person and route, there becomes no other option. Prescilla is also popping up and forcefully pushing Peri Jean to solve this case. Of course we all know how strong willed and bull headed she can be pushes back, and it doesn’t do her any good. Instead she ends up hunting down stolen items that all lead back to the Mace treasure. While tracking down the journals, a mini chest and a trunk full of books, she is being pulled into two different directions. Friends and family are asking her to open herself up. To be who and what she is. Then there’s Dean telling her to hold off. Stand back and wait until the campaign is over, because who “crazy” antics won’t be good for his chances of winning. No matter what she ends up disappointing people close to her, but that doesn’t mean a dang thing when you begin to lose those that you love. During all the twist and turns in this mystery, Peri Jean will lose many people in her life, but also solve the murder of her father. Even though it’s seems to be one heart break after another, she begins to grow and accept who and what she is. To become a stronger and more resilient woman. She finds herself with more people in her life that also accept her exactly the way she is. I will say that this is by far the saddest book the series, but a major turning point for the next part of the storyline as a whole.
